Aligarh Muslim University, [AMU] Aligarh grew out by the efforts of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. In 1877, Sir Syed founded the Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental College in Aligarh. The college was initially affiliated to the University of Calcutta and subsequently got affiliated to the University of Allahabad in 1885. In 1920 the college was transformed into the Aligarh Muslim University. The university offers more than 300 courses in both traditional and modern branches of education. It has its three off-campus centers at Malappuram, Murshidabad and Kishanganj. Recently the university has opened the Faculty of International Studies. Aligarh Muslim University Admission is offered in numerous undergraduate courses, postgraduate courses, and doctoral programs.

It was the first of its kind of such Muslim NGO in India, which awakened the Muslims from their deep slumber and infused social and political sensibility into them.
