Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) is a Private Institute located in Mesra, Ranchi and was established in the year 1955. BIT, Mesra is one of the four campuses of BITS University, Pilani. BITS University is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).BIT, Mesra is a "Deemed University" under Sec. 3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956. The Board of Governors is responsible for the main functions and overall supervision of activities. It comprises representatives of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the U.G.C., the State Government, The Chancellor, the AICTE, The Hindustan Charity Trust and the Institute Faculty. Shri C.K. Birla is the Chairman of the Board of Governors while the Governor of the state of Jharkhand officiates as the Institute's Chancellor. There's a Technical Council that decides the academic policy of the Institute.
1. BIT Mesra has been accredited by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC) & the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) established by the UGC & AICTE respectively.
2. BIT Mesra has collaborative arrangements with Universities in the USA, UK & Canada. It is also an active member of the EAGER NETWIC Project under the Asia Link programme of European Commission.
3. BIT Mesra is a fully residential campus, providing accommodation to approx. 3200 undergraduate and postgraduate students and 2000 members of the faculty and staff.
