NIT was set up by an Act of Parliament (Act 29 of 2007) which received the approval of the President of India on 5th June 2007.
National Institute of Technology Calicut is located about 22 kilometers North-East of the Calicut City. The Institute was Established in 1961 and since then runs on Non - profitable basis as per the provision Act. NIT Calicut offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Ph.D. courses. Admission to NIT Calicut will be on the basis of Entrance Exams – JEE Main, GATE, JAM, NIMCET, CAT and MAT.
1. NIT Calicut was ranked 50 among engineering colleges in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2018.It was ranked 20th among engineering colleges in India in 2017 by The Week.
2. The central library has 1.55 lakhs of books, 193 national and international journals and other resources cater to the knowledge. The central library also houses the NALANDA Digital Library, which has over 4690 online journals, 2117 e-books, 31674 e-databases, 9994 conference proceedings and about 2132 ETDs/ CBTs, etc. NALANDA is one of the earliest digital libraries in the country.
3. Sports facilities such as Badminton Court,Basketball Court,Tennis Court,Volleyball Court are availaible.
