The University of Delhi was Established in 1922 as a unitary, teaching and residential University by the Act of the then Central Legislative Assembly, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, research and social outreach has made the University a role-model and trend setter for other universities. Over 500 programmes offered by the University are approved by Academic and Executive Councils, out of which 209 programmes are being considered for NAAC accreditation purpose. The rest being run in colleges are separately accredited.
Delhi University has produced some of the leading names in the fields of Sports, Cinema, Journalism, Politics, and Commerce etc. It offers UG, PG, M.Phil. and Ph.D. Courses in a variety of discipline.The university has two main campuses- one in North Delhi and another in South.
1. Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), an online environment of e-resources caters to several disciplines taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
2. University of Delhi under the initiative called Unnat Bharat Abhiyan,has adopted five villages to carry out developmental activities.
3. In 1943, by a Delhi University act, Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board was established, where in women students were enabled to take some of the examination of the University with special coaching but without attending regular classes.
